Abstract:

This project will improve the quality and increase the value of sawn softwood through the development, assessment and implementation of innovative drying approaches that minimise distortion during and post kilning. Seven innovative procedures will be assessed on both laboratory and full commercial scales. Following a comprehensive assessment of the quality of timber produced using each technique, best practice guidance will be produced to facilitate and encourage take up of the results by industry. The project is support by strong industry collaboration.
