Abstract
New environmental models based on sustainable growth and a concern
for the environment impose changes in water consumption. Our priority
objective in the proposal is to design a new process that will enable water
consumption to tall at least 25% with respect to current processes. Leather
quality should not suffer any kind of decrease in quality as a result of the implementation
of the process. As secondary objectives, we aim to decrease salt consumption in hide
preserving methods in at least 15%. Also, pollution generated will be diminished as a result.
To achieve the objectives presented in this project we will develop a process ranging
from hide preservation to tanning. We will optimise the relation between water savings
and leather quality in each operation. To do so,
we will consider the final destination of the leather being manufactured.
