Abstract

The Centre for Thermochemical Conversion of Solid Fuels aims to:

1. Strengthen its international position in the field of research on thermochemical processing (pyrolysis, gasification, combustion) of renewable energy sources and wastes (dissemination of own knowledge, demonstration);

2. Integrate the Centre in the European Research Area and its research networks in the specific research field (exchange of knowledge, joint research programmes);

3. Improve skills and capacities of young researchers guaranteeing continuation of the Centre's activities in the long-term;

4. Channel best practises from EU research networks to Polish industry, in particular SMEs, and strengthen co-operation (with industry, SMEs) in applied research;

5. Optimise dissemination and implementation of technological solutions and research results in an NAS country and for improved participation of related research centres in the Sixth Framework Programme.

The project has involved the following organisations in various partnerships: The University of Leeds (UK), Danish International Consulting (D), Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris (FR), University of Münster (DE), The Coal Research Establishment (UK), Centre de Pyrolyse de Marienau (FR), Université de Metz (FR), Université de Nancy (FR), Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH (DE), Instituto National del Carbon, Oviedo (ES), Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas - Instituto de Carboquimica, Zaragoza (ES), Anlagentechnik GmbH (DE), Technical University Clausthal (DE), Engineer School of Chambery (FR), Technical University of Ostrava (CZ), The Slovak Academy of Science SAV, Kosice, (SK).

Partners are required for the following topics:

• Small- and medium-scale generation systems using solid fuels, biomass or organic waste;
• Biomass and waste gasification;
• Solid fuels, biomass and waste thermal processing modelling and engineering;
• Standardisation of biomass and waste for heat and power production;
• Gas engines and turbines - microgeneration; and
• Chemical synthesis using biogas (hydrogen, liquid hydrocarbons, methanol).
