Abstract
The Nova Cell process is a new resource and eco-efficient sulphur free concept for manufacturing of chemical pulp. The project was set up to develop a solid techno-economical platform for implementation of the Nova Cell process into the European chemical pulp industry.
Recent discoveries in pulping catalysis and oxygen dezincification form the scientific and technological basis for the project. The elimination of sulphur creates a new odourless image for the industry; simplify effluent recycle and by-product valorisation.
The Nova Cell process uses conventional machinery, which will greatly facilitate introduction of the process into existing pulp mills. A strong consortium ensured that the project objectives would be met for the benefit of the European pulp and paper industry, fibre consumers and European citizens.
