Abstract

This is a continuation of the SYNERGY project that ran from May 2004 to October 2005. This initial project aimed at enhancing the participation of the Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) sector in projects funded during FP6.

SYNERGY PLUS is again an Economic and Technological Intelligence Action for SMEs that want to enter the dynamics of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) markets, through RTD projects to be supported by FP7.

Distributed Energy Resources refers to the local combined production and use of electricity and heat (for instance using Renewable Energy Sources), with the export of electrical energy into the distribution grid. Previous economic and technological intelligence actions in this sector resulted in the conclusions that:

To help overcome constraints and encourage SMEs participate in FP7 a two-days training workshop for 720 SMEs in 6 Member States (Finland, France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain), will describe the opportunities offered by DER. This will allow the selection of a short list of 200 development projects, based on a technology and business analysis performed by Research Centers (VTT, Labein, Arsenal Research, Lodz University, ISET).

Through a direct connection with the Electricity Technology Platform, 150 SMEs will be introduced into the first calls for proposal of FP7, meaning in average 30 proposals which will be screened and improved by an Advisory Board of Utilities (led by GAZ de FRANCE), by investors (CAPITALIA and MERMAID) and by the Energy Agencies of the 6 Member States.

A series of dissemination actions will be coordinated by the French Energy Agency ADEME to open the SYNERGY PLUS market place to SMEs of other member states.

The project will end up in October 2007, but the Services available will continue beyond, on a private basis, relying on a public-private funding scheme. These include awareness, trainings and help in preparation of Research & Development proposals to be funded by FP7.
