ManagEnergy
ManagEnergy Initiative to encourage Intelligent use of Energy across Europe |

ManagEnergy was launched as a new initiative from the European Commission DG Energy & Transport launched in March 2002. The first phase ran to the end of 2004. The activity was then continued as part of the new Intelligent Energy Europe initiative ( 2003 - 2006).
The overall objectives, management and activities are a continuation of those carried out under the first phase, as described below. However, the project and facilities offered have evolved considerably since the activity was initiated.
Focusing on those working in energy efficiency and renewable energies at the local and regional level, the main tools are training workshops and online events. Additionally information is provided in the form of case studies, examples of good practice, European legislation and EU funding programmes.
This website includes a partner search system with some 2500 organisations, including 350 energy agencies, which can provide valuable expertise and partnerships on energy activities at local and regional levels.
Those who register withthe ManagEnergy Initiative receive the monthly newsletter.
ManagEnergy NOW also offers access to free internet broadcast facilities including some 500 individual video presentations, speeches and interviews on topical energy matters.
First Phase
ManagEnrgy aims to encourage the use of renewable sources of energy (including biomass), promote the rational use of energy and cover some aspects of alternative means of transport and clean fuels (hydroge, liquid biofuels, etc). Through a series of workshops, conferences and training events, as well as the website www.managenergy.net, it aims to identify good practice and promote this amongst local and regional energy agencies throughout Europe (including Member States, those countries seeking to join the EU and those that remain ouside the EU, but nevertheless are closely involved in the overall pattern of energy supply and demand in Europe.
The initiative is being co-ordinted by the Swedish Energy Agency by a team led by Ann Segerborg-Fick who will be well known to many of you from her time at the European Commission, handling biomass and other renewable energy projects. CPL Press, coordinators of the BioMatNet project are pleased to have been asked to design and manage the website - in part this request came as an acknowledgement of the quality and value of this BioMatNet site.
Although aimed at local and regional energy agencies, managEnergy will also offer a window
on renewable energy activities, including energy crops, solid biofuels and liquid transport fuels
throughout Europe. It will highlight projects that have succeeded in meeting
the objectives of the Community and thus recognised as examples of Good Practice.
It will also contain extensive information on European Legislation and other factors affecting the
initiation and replication of renewable and rational energy projects, and should be of value to those
planning future research and development projects in these areas.
