Introduction
Nordic Energy Research is an institution which operates under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. It was established as an institution in 1999 as a continuation of the Nordic Energy Research Programme, which commenced in 1985.
Nordic Energy Research aims to contribute towards promoting a common direction for research, development and information in those areas of the energy spectrum, which are of common Nordic interest.
The role of Nordic Energy Research is to create Nordic Opportunities by increasing Nordic expertise and competitiveness, and advancing good coordination measures and common Nordic solutions.
The work of Nordic Energy Research is aimed primarily at supporting research and development activities through grants, mobility support, network and project funding and supporting seminar and course activities.
The institution€s primary focus is on the Nordic Region, with secondary focus being placed on the adjacent areas and the EU.

Specific Projects
Projects being funded during this period include one on ethanol from lignocellulose and one on biohydrogen.
