2nd EPOBIO Workshop: Products from Plants - from crops and forests to zero-waste biorefineries

The second EPOBIO Workshop was held near Athens in May 2007. The Workshop reported the outputs of the EPOBIO project in the Flagship areas of plant cell walls in relation to biorefining, plant oils as industrial feedstocks and biopolymers. It also looked at the future strategic development of biorefineries, relevant science and policy issues in the context of industrial perspectives on sustainable developments.

Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Energy and Transport Information Days Brussels, Belgium and Live on the Internet
In the framework of its first call for proposals under the Sevent Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, the Directorates-General for Research and for Energy and Transport of the European Commission held Joint Information Days on 13 & 14 February 2007 in Brussels, Belgium.
The first day is of most interest to EPOBIO / BioMatNet as it focused on the 1st FP7 Energy Call. The aim of this event was to inform you about FP7 and the research areas open in the First Calls for Proposals in the themes Energy and Transport within the Cooperation Programme, to give details about the main legal and procedural conditions and to clarify possible questions.

This event, organised by the European Commission, aimed to provide participants with complete first-hand information and a series of communication tools regarding the Seventh Framework Programme. These communication tools have been tailored for needs of "information multipliers" and translated into the 23 official languages of the European Union, in order to support their presentations and FP7 launch events in their own countries, regions and institutions.

During this two day conference the European Commission, DG Research explained in more detail the structure and content of the forthcoming 7th Framework Program for Research (FP7) and focused on the research topics of the first calls of "Theme 2: Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology", on the horizontal activities of this theme and on the new rules of participations.
