Abstract Microencapsulation aims to include active components in microspheres. The number of microencapsulation technologies is very extensive, making it difficult to select the proper process for a specific product. Fifteen partners coming from 9 countries will start the European V.I. but the partnership will be extended to 30 to 40 members plus a large number of associated researchers. The V.I. will act as a communication platform, central information system, expert moderator and unique portal for the microencapsulation field. The V.I. will provide information survey, training, consulting and collaborative project management. All this actions will help entrepreneurs to select the right process and to find the most appropriate partners, and then to succeed, in the optimum conditions, a microencapsulation business.

While microencapsulation represents a very large market, less than 10 % of its potential is really developed industrially. This low rate is largely due the difficulties of entrepreneurs to find the right information (economical, technical, industrial) to build their business. The Virtual Institute will offers a portal to a very large community of RDT performers, suppliers and researchers. Industrial, but also researchers, will have access to very large sources of information through scientific, technological and economical database and an unique consulting systems based on a large synergetic partnership. It would then become possible to develop quickly and safely a business based on microencapsulation processor microcapsuled product.
